Sony VMC-MD3 cable: which Cyber-shot cameras use it

The VMC-MD3 is the Sony multi-terminal cable for later Cyber-shots whose manuals label the Multi connector Type3 or Type3b, among them the W350, TX5, T99, HX7V, HX9V, TX10, WX7 and WX10. Sony Japan lists 21 cameras for it, and Sony's English manuals name it as the cable that powers the camera from an AC-LS5 adaptor.

Sony's English guides we read for the TX10, WX7, WX10 and HX9V say you need an AC-LS5 AC Adaptor (sold separately) and a VMC-MD3 Cable for multi-use terminals (sold separately) to power the camera from the wall. Sony Japan's page says the cable carries USB, A/V out and DC-in on one cable, and Sony UK has a support page called 'MD3 Connecting cable'.

Sony Japan's feature lines for the VMC-MD3, as published (Japanese):

• ACアダプター（AC-LS5A）と組み合わせて、本体への電源供給が可能
• 1本のケーブルでUSB接続、A/V出力、DC IN電源供給を実現

In English: the cable works with the AC-LS5A AC adaptor to power the camera, and one cable gives USB, A/V out and DC-in power. Sony shows a list price of 4,400 yen and marks the cable as discontinued.

What nobody states

• Cameras with a Micro USB or Multi/Micro USB terminal (such as the HX20V and later models) do not use this cable family; their manuals name a Micro USB cable.
• Sony's English manuals say to use a cable compliant with your camera's Type, and the table shows Sony Japan listing this one cable for cameras labelled Type3, Type3a, Type3b and Type3c. Sony does not say how those Types differ or give a pin count, and it does not say whether the VMC-MD3 fits the older connectors on the VMC-MD1 list.
• Sony's English manuals name the VMC-MD3 only in the Type3b guides we read. Sony Japan's list also covers the Type3 cameras (W350, TX5, T99, WX5), a pairing sellers had listed without any Sony source.
