Nikon UC-E21 cable: the micro-USB Coolpix cable

The UC-E21 is Nikon's USB cable for Coolpix cameras with a micro-USB connector. Nikon Japan lists its release as 13 February 2014, for Coolpix models such as the S33, S6800, S9900 and P900, some DSLRs (D3500, D5600, D7500) and the Z 50.

Nikon's manuals for models such as the P340, P600, P610 and P900 carry the warning "Do not use a USB cable other than the UC-E21". The P340 manual describes battery charging with the Charging AC Adapter EH-71P and the UC-E21 (both included).

The micro-USB connector is listed separately from the HDMI connector in the P340 manual.

What nobody states

• The manuals do not say what happens if you use another cable, only that you should not.
• Nikon's support table says the UC-E21 can be used as an alternative for UC-E20 cameras (the D3400, D3500, D5600, D7500 and Nikon 1 J4, J5 and V3).
